What is OPT?
A multi-sensory therapy approach to help improve the strength, awareness, coordination, and control of their lips, tongue, and jaw to help elicit speech and improve speech clarity

Who benefits from OPT?
OPT is ideal for those who struggle with the movement needed for speech, feeding, or swallowing. They often need more sensory input and feedback to learn how to move their mouths effectively.

If your child has made limited progress with traditional speech therapy, it may indicate the need for a multi-sensory approach.

These individuals may have:

  • Motor-based speech disorders such as Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) or dysarthria, where planning or controlling oral movements is difficult.

  • Muscle weakness or low tone associated with conditions like Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or developmental delays.

  • Feeding and swallowing challenges due to poor coordination of the lips, tongue, or jaw.

  • Sensory processing differences, where tactile input (touch, pressure, vibration) helps improve body and oral awareness.
